Family, friends, teachers, and my therapist helped me stay on track when motivation dipped.
Guide / My story
Personal story
I dislocated my kneecap and thought I would bounce back quickly. I didn’t realize how much patience surgery and rehab would take, especially while balancing school.
After repeated instability episodes, my doctor explained that my MPFL wasn’t keeping my kneecap stable. Surgery became the safest long-term option for getting back to normal movement and feeling confident in sports again.
The hardest part was not only physical pain. It was the uncertainty: “How long until I feel like myself again?” If you are in that stage, you are not dramatic and you are not weak. It is a big process.
Family, friends, teachers, and my therapist helped me stay on track when motivation dipped.
I celebrated tiny wins like better range of motion, less swelling, and fewer pain spikes.
I emailed teachers early and asked for temporary flexibility so I could recover without panic.
I stopped comparing my timeline to other people’s and focused on steady, safe progress.
